Somali Adjectives
|Somali Adjectives: An Adjectives in general is an attribute added to a noun to describe what it is or what it is not. Adjective means “Sifo” or “Tilmaan” How can you recognize Somali adjective words? One way to understand is to look at the end of the word. If you see words that end with one of the following words, chances are these words are adjectives and they describe a noun:
- Leh
- Badan
- Daran
- Xun
- Lahayn
- Ahay/Tahay/Yahay/Nahay/Tihiin/Yihiin

I didn’t translate the words above because I just used it as an example to show some of the adjectives that can be found in Somali. If you need what the above words mean, do not hesitate to ask.
There are other adjectives that don’t fall in the same category as the ones above. Also some, Somali Adjectives are little bit flexible for example: Beautiful means “qurux badan” in Somali, So qurux badan/ Quruxsan/ Qurxoon and Qurux leh can all mean the beautiful. One of the ways you can learn Somali is to approach and learn suffixes and prefixes of the words , so that if you come across the word “Qurxoonaan jirtay” you have at least some sense of what the word is referring to.
