Translated by: Ibrahim. |
Afrikaay Hurudooy
Voice: Magool |
O sleeping Africa | Hohey afrikaay, hurudooy. |
Your enemies have saddled you, sleeping one | Cadaw ku heryey, hurudooy. |
Your brave men, sleeping one | Halyeeyadaadii, hurudooy. |
Are being eaten by vultures, sleeping one | Haad baa cunaaye, hurudooy. |
2X | 2X |
You are being put on burdens, sleeping one! | Haamaa la saraa, hurudooy |
like a tame camel, sleeping one | Hayin sidisaa hurudooy |
You are being led, sleeping one | La hogaaminayaa |
2X | 2X |
You should not wrap yourself in shame | Dulli lama hilaabtee |
where are your brave men? | aaway hanadadaadii |
2x | 2X |
Fools are the ones lost | doqon baaaaaaaa habawsane |
Always confused | waligeed halaysane |
Like flocks of animals, | sida xoolihiibaa |
we are being walked to corrals | xero nalagu hooyaa |
2x | 2X |
For many nights, sleeping one | habeeno badan baan hurudooy |
I slept with hunger, sleeping one | hamuun ku seexdoon hurudooy |
Due to extreme anger, sleeping one | hirtaanyo awgeed hurudooy |
I could not speak, sleeping one | La hadli wayeen hurudooy |
2X | 2X |
The milk of my she-camel, sleeping one | Caanihii hashaydaan hurudooy |
Is unattainable to me, sleeping one | haleeli waayee hurudooy |
I am refused to | la’iga horjoogaa |
2X | 2X |
You should not wrap yourself in shame | duli lama hilaabtee |
where are your brave men? | aaway hanadadaadii |
2X | 2X |
Fools are the ones lost | doqon baaa habawsane |
Always confused | waligeed halaysane |
Like flocks of animals, | sida xoolihiibaa |
we are being walked to corrals | xero nalagu hooyaa |
Wild/attacking Hyenas, sleeping one | Horor warabaad hurudooy |
Have got you by force, sleeping one | Waaxyo ku haysaa hurudooy |
And your wealth, sleeping one | oo hantidaadii hurudooy |
Is being feasted on, sleeping one. | Ka hirqanayee hurudooy |
And you’re unable to talk about it | Hadlina waydee hurudooy |
When will you know, sleeping one | Hadmaad ogaan hurudooy |
And become better. | Aad hagaagi hurudooy |
SOMALI SONG LYRICS TRANSLATION: Afrikaay Hurudooy
We hope you like the Somali Song Lyrics Translation, leave comment or contact us for any concerns.
Note: This translation is not word for word.
For example, Haama lasaaa – Haan is the milk or water wooden containers Somali nomads use to put on the camels. So we used “burden” instead of a “container” because that is what the song is referring to. When you put those full containers on the camel, the camels never complain and carries on no matter how heavy. This is just one example, there are more like this.
Also: sleeping one – is this context, the song is talking directly to Africa, (hey you sleeping continent)

On a separate note, translating songs is not an easy task, and requires lots of research of words because Somali songs/poems use not-so-common words. I am teaming with someone to help us translate songs. If you want a song translated, there is small fee that is associated with it. If you can help us sponsor songs for small fee we would appreciate it. Please contact learnSomali.com here or directly to the translation team at SuugaanTranslation@gmail.com.
